WC Assignment # 4_Alonso_Caula

ALONSO, María Sol
CAULA, Florencia

• Choose a quote from The Diary of Anne Frank which reflects Anne´s Main values in life. Explain that quote in the light of her book.

The Diary of a Young Girl reflects Anne´s deepest feelings and thoughts about life. She considers that a healthy family environment is necessary to develop the mind and identity of children, but she does not receive the support she expects from her family. Because of her understanding of the situation they are going through is that she thinks that the role of her parents should be completely different.
Even though she confesses to love her father dearly, she is disappointed at his attitudes towards her. She thinks her father treats her differently from her sister; approving Margot´s every action, praising and hugging her constantly. Anne is usually upset because she has the sensation of not being taken seriously.
All the same, Anne´s poor relationship with her mother strongly affects her emotions. Although she does not want to judge her, she complains about her carelessness and her hard-heartdness. She pictures what a mother should be like, but cannot find such characteristics in the woman she addresses `mom´. For that reason, she usually calls her momsie or moms as an imperfect manner of saying mom; therefore, an imperfect mother. Edith Frank is the kind of mother Anne does not want to be for her own children.
Altogether, Anne Frank´s maturity allows her to understand the circumstances they were facing. She hopes her parents would comfort her, but they have let her down many times and she blames them for her unhappiness. She is clearly a young lady in need of love and caring.
